- John Setterstrom, CEO of the Lucky Eagle Casino, has stated that this type of malfunction has never occurred at the venue before. He said that he has been in touch with the slot machine manufacturer to find out more about the error, and hopes to keep Ms Castillo as a customer.
- Lucky Eagle Casino machine malfunction causes chaos Slight chaos and some dissatisfied regular customers was the result when a Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino players club instant prize machine malfunctioned today.
Oct 31, 2016 A woman playing slots at the Lucky Eagle Casino believed she won $8M, but officials told her the machine had malfunctioned. Then, they printed out her voucher for only $80, and pointed out the sticker that’s on all slot machines that says any malfunction voids winnings.
Veronica Castillo recently thought she was the recipient of an $8 million slots jackpot. However, a Washington-state casino informed her that the massive prize was due to a “machine malfunction.”
The Portland, Oregon woman took her mother to the Lucky Eagle Casino in Rochester, Washington (Olympia area). Not normally a gambler, Castillo began playing the Jurassic Riches slot and won a prize worth $8.5 million.
For the next five minutes, she was filled with bliss while thinking of millionaire dreams. However, these dreams were dashed when Lucky Eagle officials told Castillo that the slot machine malfunctioned and her prize was only worth $10.50.
“I felt insulted I felt cheated, I was very disappointed very upset and then I started to think about all the people there,” Castillo said. “And then I got angry.”
It appears that she’s still angry because the loan officer is currently searching for an attorney. But as KGW Portland reports, the Lucky Eagle Casino has some strong evidence on their side if/when Castillo decides to sue.
“The win claimed by Ms. Castillo is not legally or practically possible on the machine,” said Lucky Eagle spokesman Joseph Dupuis.
He adds that the maximum jackpot on Jurassic Riches is only worth $20,000; so an $8.5 million payout would have been impossible. Given the amount that Castillo was betting, the most she could have won was $6,000.

The company that built Jurassic Riches is currently investigating why the machine malfunction may have occurred. In the meantime, Lucky Eagle is doing everything they can to protect their reputation for offering fair gaming.

“We deeply regret that Ms. Castillo temporarily experienced an incorrect credit display while the machine began its process of metering down after the display malfunction, and have offered her a weekend stay in one of our suites as our guest, as well as dining at the property and free play included,” Dupuis said.
Casino Machine Malfunction
This certainly isn’t the first time that a slots player has been tricked into thinking they won a multi-million-dollar jackpot. Earlier this year, an Iowa grandmother thought she was the winner of a $41 million slots prize. Unfortunately, in a case similar to Castillo’s, it was determined that the machine could not have possibly offered $41 million.
